Justin Timberlake Sells His Music Catalog In A Deal Valued At $100 Million
Justin Timberlake chose coins over art in a deal that’ll add some millions to his pockets! According to The Wall Street Journal, Justin sold the rights to his song catalog, including about 200 tracks Justin wrote and co-wrote throughout his career. From NSYNC hits like Girlfriend and Pop to solo slam-dunks like Sexy Back and Mirrors, Justin reportedly struck a deal valued at $100 million.
Companies Hipgnosis and Blackstone Inc. partnered in October 2021 with a $1 billion pledge toward buying music rights and managing catalogs. Together, the businesses launched Hipgnosis Songs Capital as the vehicle for acquirement and management. This deal with Justin is the third transaction announced in 2022 by the partnership’s brainchild.
Hipgnosis Songs Capital holds full ownership and control over Justin’s catalog with the purchase. However, the deal did not include rights to any future music releases by the pop star.
“I am excited to be partnering with Merck and Hipgnosis — he values artists and their creative work and has always been a strong supporter of songwriters and storytelling,” Justin said in a statement per Complex. “I look forward to entering this next chapter.”
Justin Timberlake Holds A Chart-Topping Career
Justin has definately seen success in the music industry throughout the years. For example, the pop star’s albums have collectively sold more than 150 million copies worldwide, according to the WSJ. He joined the entertainment scene on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club as a child.
Timberlake later became a lead vocalist for NSYNC, a booming boy band with nearly 70 million copies sold, per WSJ. His debut album Justified and 2006 FutureSex/Love Sounds brought him success when he launched his solo career. Singles like Cry Me A River, My Love, and What Goes Around…Comes Around reached number one single status on the charts.
He recently appeared in Hulu’s drama series Candy. Jessica Biel co-created, starred, and executive produced the five-part project based on the real story of Candy Mongomery, who killed her friend Betty Gore in 1980. The married couple, Jessica and Justin, starred opposite each other in the series. Jessica played Candy and he played Steven Deffibaugh, the investigator assigned to Betty’s murder.
