Ray J Admits 2007 Sex Tape Release Was A Planned Partnership With Kim Kardashian And Kris Jenner
Just last week, Ray J labeled a recent storyline on The Kardashians “a lie.” He was referring to the story that he had a second sex tape featuring himself and Kim Kardashian and plans to release it. Now, Ray J is reportedly correcting a narrative he says has been a “burden” and “embarrassment” for him, to the point where he has felt “suicidal.”
“When I put on the comments that all of this is a lie, I didn’t mean Kanye coming to meet with me about some second sex tape,” Ray J told The Daily Mail. “I mean all of this is all a lie. From the beginning of us putting this sex tape out, this has been the biggest lie in the industry in the history of entertainment.”

In the exclusive conversation with The Daily Mail, Ray J dropped explosive details about the infamous tape. Its release in 2007 via Vivid Entertainment was a consensual partnership between him, Kim, and Kris Jenner.
“I’ve never leaked anything. I have never leaked a sex tape in my life. It has never been a leak,” Ray J said. “It’s always been a deal and a partnership between Kris Jenner and Kim and me and we’ve always been partners since the beginning of this thing.”
Per Ray J, the former couple filmed the sexual content back in 2002 while celebrating Kimberly’s birthday. He admitted that releasing the sex tape was initially his idea after seeing the fame Paris Hilton collected from her leaked video.
Ray J said Kim hopped on the idea, even roping in her mother to handle the logistics with Vivid Entertainment.
“…Once I pitched the idea to her, just playing around a little bit, that’s when she jumped on the idea, talked to her mom, and it was out of my hands from there,” Ray J said.
Apparently, Kim and Ray signed a contract to release three sexual-in-nature videos, which he said Kim alone has had in her possession since 2002.
“She kept them all – she had to go find that tape [Sex Tape Cabo #1] and then present it. I never had a tape in my possession in our whole relationship,” Ray J said. “I never had a single one at my house – she had them at her house. She’s always had all the tapes in a Nike shoebox under her bed.”
Ultimately, only one video was released, but Ray claims Kim should have all the footage.
Ray J Claims The ‘Leaked Tape’ Story Ruined His Industry Opportunities
In addition to speaking on the sex tape, Ray J shared details about his meeting with Kanye West at LAX, his life in the 14 years since releasing the video, and a recent conversation with Kim Kardashian.
Ray J revealed he feels regret for his role in putting the tape out there because he alone was publicly blamed for leaking it. However, he’s remained hush all these years, except for the occasional comments like last week, due to a contract he claims he signed without legal advice.
“I felt suicidal because when you know something’s real and it’s true, and you’re watching a whole family create an empire from a lie they’ve created, it’s heartbreaking and disrespectful to all the entertainers who have been honest and true to their craft,” Ray J said.
He continued,
“As a black man living and working in America, it’s hard to get up every day and look out at the water or look at my family and know that they think something about you when you know it’s 1,000 percent the other way. How do you live like that?”
According to Ray J, the reputation he earned from the storyline spun by Kim and Kris closed major doors for him, including being featured on “any reputable major network television show,” on “Dancing with the Stars,” and even “America’s Got Talent.”
“Because of what they made me, I’m not allowed to be in those places,” Ray J said. Also adding, “For me, I’ve been walking on eggshells thinking I’m going to get in trouble for telling the truth and I’ve been holding onto it for the past 14 years and watching them humiliate me. They’re celebrating my destruction.”
Ray J Claims Kim’s Sex Tape “Lie” Affects Him As A Father
To Ray J, it’s important people, especially his three-year-old daughter Melody, know the truth.
“I just want my daughter and my son to appreciate what I’ve done here on Earth and know that their dad doesn’t go for exploiting women, disrespecting women and leaking footage of someone who didn’t give permission,” Ray J said.

Ray J’s quest for revealing the truth came after he realized the Kardashians used the sex tape as a storyline in their new show. He expressed the final straw being the moment when Kim alleged Ray J might have footage of him “sticking a dildo in [her] a**.”
Ray J allegedly reached out to Kim via Instagram in screenshots shared with Daily Mail after a decade of no communication. He seemingly pleaded with her in lengthy messages to stop promoting the narrative that he leaked their sex tape.
“I know how promo goes, and I get it 100%- but it’s got out of control with this new story, and my team is on my head thinking it’s true,” Ray J wrote to Kim.
He then jokingly referenced her dildo comment before adding “…but seriously, it makes me look like a rapist and dirty perv, and I’m catching a lot of slack from it.”
Kim Defends Her Portrayal Of Ray J & The Sex Tape On TV
The ex-pair exchanged multiple messages in the screenshots, but Kimberly seemingly never admitted or denied that the sex tape release was a partnership. Instead, she clarified a few of her comments on the recent episode.
“If you’re upset about the dildo comment, it was clearly a sarcastic joke and I was laughing when I said it,” Kim allegedly wrote. “My burn them to the ground comment was a generalization to anyone threatening to hold his over my head 20 years later. We are both parents now with young kids and careers and I’m sure you want to move on from this just like I do. But your manager is the person who brought this all up out nowhere and I have a right to share how it affected me.”

Speaking on her responses, Ray J told Daily Mail that he would have remained quiet had they not continued to peddle the leak narrative.
“If they didn’t come back and show how they really were, how greedy and slimy they really were, I would never have had the enthusiasm or the will to go out and speak my truth,” Ray J said.
What Happened At The Airport With Kanye West?
As for what happened at LAX with Ye, Ray J said they held a four-hour meeting in a private terminal. While Kanye reviewed the footage on the laptop, Ray said he spoke to the Donda artist on a “father to father” level. Apparently, the laptop and hard drive Kanye gave to Kim in the episode did contain pictures, videos and even conversations with between the ex-couple. The conversations were Kim reaching out in 2007 and additional talks between 2007-2009 about the partnership.
“It wasn’t a sex tape – it was a lot of pictures, a lot of little mini videos and a lot of proof we’ve been talking over the years [since they split in 2006]. If you send me an email in 2008, the computer doesn’t change the date on it,” Ray J said.
And while Ray J expects consequences for speaking out, he told the outlet he also “feels relieved” after unloading his truth. He said money and an apology won’t work, instead Kim had to “be honest” with herself.
“This has been a burden for me. It’s been an embarrassment for me. My family have questioned my integrity, who I am as a person,” he said. Adding, “….for the remainder of my life, I’m going to live in my truth. And not in the lie that’s been created by Kris Jenner and Kim. I will not let them do this to me anymore.”
At the time of publication, neither Kim Kardashian, Kanye West or Kris Jenner have responded to Ray J’s story.
