ZERO Stars? RHOP’s Candiace Dillard Sparks Debate Over Uber Expectations
Never the stranger to speaking her mind, Candiace Dillard Bassett of The Real Housewives of Potomac took to Twitter to express an issue that she had during a recent ride to the airport.
“No Stars” For Uber Drive Who Didn’t Assist With Bag
The reality star, also an acclaimed R&B singer, popped things off on Thursday morning after tweeting that she wholeheartedly expects her Uber drivers to help take down her luggage if she’s being dropped off at the airport.
Not stopping there, she said that a driver’s failure to be of assistance would result in a flat-out 0-star rating.
If I’m traveling via Uber in your car to the airport and you don’t help me with my bags, you’re getting no stars. Like. What kind of Uber driver doesn’t help with bags? You see I’m going to the airport. And you just watch me struggle with my bags?

Humorously, Candiace also unabashedly owned that this was an example of “first world problems,” though she was still going to “complain freely.”
I’m going to start a series called “First World Problems” so that I can complain freely.

Fans Go Back & Forth Over Candiace’s Tweets
These statements sparked quite the conversation, as many people went on to slam the “Drive Back” singer’s stance.
The entitlement is showing.

This tweet is not going to go over well, but it reflects the parts of your personality #RHOP fans strongly dislike. When you feel slighted you overreact and never take accountability. Not cool.

I don’t think you understand what less than 5 stars does to a person driving rideshare. You could cause them to lose their job bc you expected more than what is required of them. I was a Lyft Ambassador/driver. Change your entitled zero stars to 5 if bag help is your complaint.
— Dynasty of Housewives (@dynastyofhw) November 17, 2022
Some alleged that, unless she ordered the more-luxurious Uber Black, it’s not the driver’s job to help with luggage.
Was it an Uber black? Bc if it’s a regular uber, I don’t think they usually do that unless you request it in a message beforehand! 0 stars seems a bit drastic no? Once they go below a threshold, their account gets suspended. And one 0 star can make a big change in their ratings! pic.twitter.com/OPn7gsitig

They get paid to drive you not take care of ur bags.
— deanne drosos (@ddrosos14) November 17, 2022
Oh come on, Candiace. Uber drivers are not required to lift your bags. Please stop with the entitlement and outrage.
— Keeping_Kevin (@keeping_kevin) November 17, 2022
You have to request and Uber Black if you want black car service. Otherwise expect to get your own bags.
— The DisCountess (@Discountess_) November 17, 2022
A few commenters brought up that drivers who don’t assist with one’s bags may actually have a disability, and a 0-star rating could negatively impact their livelihood.
Please don’t do that. MANY rideshare drivers have disabilities & can’t lift bags. Driving is often their only method of income. Bag help is not a requirement. Giving less than 5 stars, is hurting their source of income. Always 5 stars if they get you safely to your destination.
— Dynasty of Housewives (@dynastyofhw) November 17, 2022
What if some people with physical health challenges use rideshare to supplement their income because it allows them to sit? Idk you just never know what's going on with another person I wouldn't want to mess up their rating for THAT
— Housewiffery (@Housewiffery) November 17, 2022
I’m a huge fan but giving Uber drivers zero stars puts their livelihood at risk and that isn’t right over something so small. They may have disabilities or families.

On the other end of the spectrum, others responded to the backlash by saying that a paid driver helping with bags is “common courtesy.”
I travel for work often and I mainly take Ubers, Lyfts and Cabs to and from the airport. I’ve had approximately one experience where a man didn’t help me with the bag from the trunk. Even women drivers help with the bag. It’s a common courtesy, not some elaborate expectation.
— sociallystacij (@SociallyStaciJ) November 17, 2022
Y'all in the comments: Uber is not required to help you with your bags. You don't know the context of Candiace's experience with this driver. Since this is a service, it would be in the driver's best interest to be courteous especially if the rider is struggling. #CustomerService
— L-Train – LTV Productions (@lworkyourgifts) November 17, 2022
These replies are crazy, helping with bags is basic manners!
— fancy nancy (@lemonpeperwings) November 17, 2022
These comments… I regularly went to the airport pre pandemic and have gone more times than the average person since pandemic. I’ve never ever had a driver who didn’t help me with my bags. In fact I thought they all did, and would be taken back if I encountered one who didn’t.
— Athena (@Original_Chriss) November 17, 2022
I would feel so uncomfortable watching a woman struggle and not attempting to help!
— MERRIAM WEBSTER WHERE YOU AT? (@teresaicon) November 17, 2022
In response to how much steam her tweets picked up, Candiace politely thanked everyone for engaging in a “healthy debate.”
I really wasn’t aware that my opinion on Uber drivers and struggling with airport luggage would be such a hot topic. Lol. Thank you all for the healthy debate
— CANDIACE (@TherealCANDIACE) November 17, 2022
However, staying true to form, she also took a moment to clap back at a couple of critics.
You want to weaponize “normalcy” so bad. My opinion normal and so am I. Now go have yourself a normal ass day
— CANDIACE (@TherealCANDIACE) November 17, 2022
If you see me struggling, get out and help. ESP before I accidentally scratch your car while struggling.
— CANDIACE (@TherealCANDIACE) November 17, 2022
The RHOP star also seemingly tried to seize the opportunity by going on to suggest a “new debate” centered around some Saweetie-esque food choices: jelly on hash browns.
New debate. I’m putting jelly on my (Chick-fil-A) hash browns. Let’s discuss.
— CANDIACE (@TherealCANDIACE) November 17, 2022
What’s your stance on Candiace’s argument, and would you give an Uber driver 0 stars for failing to help with your airport luggage?
